EXCERPT OF THE STUDY
Newspapers are certainly the most sought after in terms of transmitting information pertaining to political, religious or cultural issues to the heterogeneous audience (Nigerians). It is in the light the importance of the newspapers during electioneering that every group tries to curry favour from them. It is in this thinking that Ibraheem, Ndisika and Tejumaiye (2015) opine that the newspapers are universally referred to as agents which wield considerable power and political control, such that those who hold sway of political power and authority are always conscious of the fact that information management and control through the newspapers is central to the capturing, retention and exercise of political power. Newspapers are indeed a veritable means of influencing members of the society to think in a certain partner and consequently influencing the members of the society to support ideas in a certain way. Every political actor (state or non-state actors) wants to be a good person before other members of the society. Regardless of which side of the coin such person belongs to, they all want to be regarded as leaders and beacons of hope to others.
